Eleaf iStick TC40W

Although box-mods have been around for quite some time, the Eleaf iStick series are the thing that brought box-mods and sub-ohm vaping to the mainstream market.

They look good, they perform great and they’re quite affordable.

The iStick TC40W features temperature control and a variable wattage. Despite its small size, the TC40W can reach 40W with a power capacity of 2600mAh.

It packs a 2600mAh, not replaceable battery. It’s capable of pass-through vaping.

I’ve been using the iStick TC40W with both the Ola x Fire tank, which can be found here, and the Eleaf iJust 2 tank, which can be found here.

The iStick TC40W has two modes: Temperature control mode and variable wattage mode. You can switch between the two by holding the center button between the two arrows for a few seconds. After that, you can increase or decrease the temperature or wattage to your liking, by clicking on the arrows.

First off, temperature control. The temperature control function on the iStick TC40W performs really well. I’ve been fiddling around with the settings quite some time, before deciding that my favorite setting is 290 degrees celcius. I did run into some problems with the temperature control, since the reading seems to be a little off sometimes. I’ve taken some hits where it just didn’t seem to heat up my coil. Further inspection revealed that when this happens, the devices goes into it’s temperature-lock, thinking the coil is already to hot, while it isn’t. Replacing the coil usually fixed the problem.

As for variable wattage mode, I’ve never had any problems. My favorite setting is all the way up to the max: 40W.

The display on the iStick is clear and easy to read. No useless information, just the wattage or current temperature, the voltage and the current resistance of the coil. While vaping, it’ll also tell you how long you’re keeping the button down. After ten seconds, it’ll lock for your safety.

The battery life differs a little from day to day. I can usually go about 12-15 hours of moderate vaping on one charge. However, I have seen it go down to 6 hours on more heavy usage.
